Afro-Asianism & Islamic Commonwealth

Translated from the French and Arabic, annotated and with introduction by
Mohamed El-Tahir El-Mesawi

This volume brings together two seminal works by Malik Bennabi from the late 1950s: Afro-Asianism and Islamic Commonwealth. These works reveal Bennabi’s genius as a geopolitical and strategic thinker, addressing regional and global affairs of the time as they relate to Muslim and Asian-African peoples. Both were produced against the backdrop of the accelerating decolonisation movement in the so-called Third World, at a time when the Cold War and the post-Second World War race for global dominance between the capitalist and socialist superpowers was intensifying.

The publication of this volume coincides with the seventieth anniversary of Bennabi’s Afro-Asianism and the seventy-first anniversary of the Bandung Conference.
